Book Review of 'Beautiful Creatures' by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Creatures was written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl and published in 2009 by Little, Brown & Co.
Ethan Wate lives in the small, Southern town of Gatlin, South Carolina, because 'the Wates always had', according to his dad. But when he starts to have strange dreams of a beautiful girl, everything in his life begins to change.
Then Ethan meets his 'dream girl', Lena Duchannes on a dark, rainy highway and he learns that she is the niece of the most reclusive man in Gatlin, Macon Ravenwood.
Ethan and Lena are so drawn to each other that they seem to 'share' the same weird dreams and they can 'speak' to each other in their minds. But Lena's sixteenth birthday is coming and the family curse she is so afraid of, will decide her fate as a Caster. Will she be 'Light', doing good with her caster powers, or will she go 'Dark' and reek havoc. Ethan and Lena must search for the book that can help Lena go to the Light side and remain with Ethan forever.
Beautiful Creatures tells a story of young lovers, overshadowed by an evil curse that could part them for all time. Masterfully written, Garcia & Stohl, have captured the essence of southerness in their descriptive passages and the edgy dialogue is spot-on. The characters are authentic and could easily be the kids next door. Beautiful Creatures is a page turner from beginning to end and will leave you wanting MORE, MORE, MORE...
I am giving Beautiful Creatures a 5-spider rating and highly recommending you read this wonderful novel. It is certain to be the next big thing in young adult book entertainment.
