Fallen was written by Lauren Kate and published in 2009 by Delacorte Press.
When Luce Price enters the doors of Sword & Cross 'boarding' school in Savannah, she feels like it is the end of life as she knows it. No cell phones, no best friend; only once-a-week phone calls and occasional visits from her parents. But as bad as it is, there is one bright spot at Luce's new school and his name is Daniel Grigori. Luce is immediately drawn to this strange boy, who wants nothing to do with her...or does he? He seems to go out of his way to avoid her, but then there are those times when he seems to know her better than she knows herself. But wait... there is also Cam Brial, the other distraction at Sword & Cross, who seems to be as drawn to Luce as she is drawn to Daniel.
So when Luce and her new BFF, Penn start investigating into the pasts of the students of Sword & Cross, things start to get a little crazy. And what about those creepy, black, swirling masses that show up occasionally to frighten Luce when she least expects them? What are they and what do they have to do with the library fire that causes a student's death and puts Luce under suspicion again?
Lauren Kate has written a true winner in Fallen. She has captured the heart and spirit of the characters with all the angst and quirkiness of youth. Her imaginative settings and colorful descriptions make this story come to life as the plot twists and turns right before your eyes.
Dangerously suspenseful and hauntingly romantic, Lauren Kate's writing easily equals that of Meyer and Garcia & Stohl, and the story plot is heaven sent. Fallen is a story for the ages and will keep any YA enthusiast on the edge of their chair and wanting more.
I am giving Fallen a 5-spider rating and hope you will not miss this wonderful novel by this great new author.DJ Weaver
